ABSTRACT

For the last decades, microelectronic technology has dominated several fields such as telecommunications and information processing, playing an important role in almost every aspect of daily life. However, the need for more efficient, higher speed, and lower sized integrated electronic circuits has demanded novel devices that can suppose an alternative to classic electronic computation. For this reason, increased interest is being devoted to other technologies as photonic. In this technology, electrons are substituted by photons to transmit information, allowing the development of faster and more efficient devices.
