ABSTRACT
Selection (Chapter 22) is the process of choosing individuals for reproduction in an evolutionary algorithm. One popular form of selection is called proportional selection. As the name implies, this approach involves creating a number of offspring in proportion to an individual’s fitness. This approach was proposed and analyzed by Holland (1975) and has been used widely in many implementations of evolutionary algorithms.
