ABSTRACT

In 1956 K. Kordylewski and his colleague M.Winiarski suggested that there might be "lunar Trojans", and in October 1956 Kordylewski reported a bright patch in one of the stable positions. In March and April 1961 he managed to photograph two cloudy patches in the Trojan sites; they were again reported in 1975 from the OSO (Orbiting Solar Observatory) and were photographed by Winiarski in 1990. It cannot be said that the evidence is conclusive, because the patches are so very dim, but the Kordylewski clouds may exist, and they are more likely to be aggregations of very small particles rather than definite satellites. At the moment this is about as far as we can go.
