ABSTRACT

Some noise contributions from the lamp and the measurement system have the same slit-dependence, and so cannot be separated within the same experiment. However, examination of sources such as tungsten halogen and photo-ionisation lamps, that emit in the UV with different radiation generating processes, allowed the identification of the dominant noise term. In these experiments the lamps were coupled to the system to give rather similar detected photocurrents and, fortuitously, a particular lamp was found to have a far larger (-4x) constant noise contribution than all the other examples of this lamp type having the same UV output.
