ABSTRACT

In order to gain more insight in the behaviour of electrodes in HID-lamps, especially diffuse/spot effects, an electrode model has been created. An explicit method is used to solve the heat balance equations of a two-dimensional, rotational symmetric electrode body numerically. The boundary conditions of this model are the power density at the electrode surface (including radiation) and the temperature at the base of the electrode or feedthrough. The model is completely phase resolved so time-dependent effects can be studied.
