ABSTRACT

Some people are visionaries; others are not. Some individuals, who fall into the latter category, may wonder where furniture, appliances, etc., would fit when building a new house or moving to an apartment. What if engineers who are designing a new car could sit in the car and get a feel for where to place controls? Virtual reality, a term coined by Jaron Lanier, will allow this to happen. According to Whatis.com (2002),

Virtual reality is the simulation of a real or imagined environment that can be experienced visually in the three dimensions of width, height, and depth, and that may additionally provide an interactive experience visually in full real-time motion with sound and possibly with tactile and other forms of feedback.
