ABSTRACT
Many of the secondary metabolites are found only in certain plant species, in distinct tissues, at defined developmental stages, or only under certain stress conditions. Therefore, genes encoding enzymes of the shikimate pathway exhibit an organ-specific or stress-induced expression (see Chap. 12).
