ABSTRACT

Changes in the optical densities of amide I and amide II bands in FTIR spectra were plotted against the irradiation wavelength, the effect of vitamin E on these bands was analyzed, and the suppression of the degradation of peptide linkage was confirmed. The photodegradation of collagen is wavelength dependent as is the suppression of degradation by vitamin E. The reaction scheme of photodegradation is very complex; however, these experimental results offer basic information on photoaging in animal skin.
