ABSTRACT

Plastics, elastomers, polyblends, and coatings are vulnerable to harmful effects of the environment. Deteriorative factors are of a chemical (oxygen and its active forms, humidity, metal ions, harmful anthropogenic emissions, and atmospheric pollutants such as NOx , S02) and physical (heat, mechanical stress, radiation) nature. The relevant processes, melt degradation, long-term heat-aging, and weathering, are initiated by temperature, mechanical forces, chemical catalysis, and solar and high-energy radiations.
