ABSTRACT

The redox pairs 163-164 and 147-23 are characteristic of a high alkyl radical-scavenging potency. Stable C-alkylates 142 or 165 (n== 1,2), which have alkyls linked to the arylene ring, and O-alkylate 166 are products of trapping of alkyls. Thermolyzing N-alkylates 167 or 168 are generated from the quinone monoimine 163 or diimine 147, respectively. The alkyl is split off similarly to the example in Eq. (29). An olefin is formed and the parent amines 163 or 23 are regenerated.
