ABSTRACT

Another class of zinc fingers involved in signal transduction can be classified as membrane-binding proteins [126]. So far three distinct domains have been described in this group: the cysteine-rich domain Cl of PKC, the phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate recognition domain FYVE, and the effector domain of rabphilin-3 that regulates the activity of the small GTP hydrolase RAB3A. Structural similarities were observed between these distinct classes of zinc finger domains and also between these domains and both the RING and LIM domains.
