ABSTRACT

Many other enzymes are activated by K+ or Na+. Table 2 provides a list of some of the enzymes in this category. Structures are available for some of the proteins listed in Table 2, but the monovalent cations have not yet been identified in the electron density maps. The Na+/K+ ATPase is perhaps the most prominent member of this class. This ATPase is a trans-membrane protein for which there is a large body of biochemical and physiological data available. This information is summarized in reviews and monographs [1-5,9-11].
