ABSTRACT

The beam loads were applied at either 125mm or 250mm from the face of the column, i.e. column eccentricities of 200mm and 325mm respectively. The beam and column loads were increased proportionately in the ratios of either 1:8 or 1:5. The details of all eight specimens are given in Table 1. As seen from the table, four of the specimens were provided with 12 'Hilti' nails, Hilti (1990), in an effort to study the effect of these shear connectors on the connection behaviour. Four of the 3.7mm diameter, 62mm long nails were provided at the top, bottom and middle of the finplates. They were placed symmetrically on both sides of the RHS sides to which the finplates were welded. When being assembled, the beams were bolted to the finplates and only hand tightened.
