This equation allows one to determine the deformation phase of the mid-section, if the load P is given. Consequently, the exact value of 'Pc and me can be obtained from (8) to (12). The allowable eccentricity can then be found from Eq (16). Note that Eqs (8) to (12), derived for a tensile N, are equally valid for the compression P.
