ABSTRACT. This paper presents an overview of slipforming. A brief historical review provides the context for acquainting the lay-person with the fundamental concepts and some of the terminology used. The case for putting slipforming into the right process type from an operations management perspective is presented and the key issue of concrete supply discussed. Mix designs are briefly covered. A complete section is devoted to offshore structures to provide a review of 30 years involvement of slipform with this unique industry and sets the scene for a preview into the next century. The paper closes with some discussion as to what might be the future advances in slipform technology.
