ABSTRACT

An empirical shear-displacement hysteretic law for reinforced masonry shear walls is calibrated on the basis of experiments. The capability of the model to reproduce the behaviour of walls failing in shear as well as walls failing in flexure is discussed. The law is suitable for use in simplified non-linear dynamic modelling. By means of an « - d.o.f. shear-type model, the seismic behaviour of multi-storey buildings can be simulated within the context of parametric studies, studying the influence of different predominant failure mechanisms.
