ABSTRACT

An extensive review of the experimental literature on historic masonry structures led to the setting of a database of geometric and mechanical parameters. Data regression's curves have been derived, which enable the definition of the mechanical properties of the masonry when some of the mechanical and geometric parameters of the components are known. The database is linked to a f.e. non-linear analysis procedure which enables to simulate standard test and analysis of whole structures. The paper compares the results obtained with this procedure to the experimental results on repair of spandrel walls subjected to uneven settlement obtained at Bath University in collaboration with Karlsruhe University. Both unreinforced and reinforced spandrels are simulated.
