ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION In sporting terms, it could be said that the New National Stadium is not yet in the dressing room. In fact, contrary to much media speculation, the team has not even been picked. Hence, the lists of supposed features that can be downloaded from Internet sites on this historic venue-such as the repositioning of the famous twin towers, the re-orientation of the axis through 90°, the use of the outer skin as a projection screen for laser images, the mobile transparent roof panels and the undulating ‘Wembley wave’ upper tierare, at this stage, all guesswork. For, until the architect is appointed in April 1998, there are few, if any, aspects that can be regarded as fixed and immutable.
