ABSTRACT

This paper describes a case study of the development of a graphical user interface. The application is software that produces and amends the plans which are needed to operate automatic sorting machines within Royal Mail. Without sort plans sorting machines would not work. In simple terms, sort plans contain information about which letter goes in which box on a sorting machine. It is essentially a database, application software and a sophisticated human computer interface. The new system is called “Computerised Routing for Automated Mail Processing”, (CRAMP).
