ABSTRACT
There is currently extensive world wide research and development being carried out regarding in-car navigation or route guidance systems, such that these systems will be widely available in the near future. In the worst case these systems could overload the driver with additional information and seriously distract the driver from the primary task of driving safely. Professional groups of automotive workers and prospective manufacturers are therefore looking to the human factors community for recommendations and guidelines on usable and safe interfaces.
