ABSTRACT
Even in the early 1990s, 40 years after Hwyel Murrell established the first UK industrial ergonomics department in the English Midlands there are still relatively few ergonomists directly employed in industry and even fewer departments of ergonomics in industry. This seems somewhat surprising for a discipline that offers, simultaneously, to influence health, safety and performance!
