ABSTRACT
In the context of change and technology transfer this paper will concentrate on:
(i) Identifying the problem. (Current business situation versus desired business situation)
(ii) Identifying an appropriate manufacturing solution. (Focused manufacturing by means of cellular manufacturing)
(iii) Implementing the solution. (New attitudes, structures, and working practices)
The TCS was formed between the University of Sheffield and Footprint Tools Ltd. Footprint Tools was established in 1875, and is now one of the largest privately owned hand tool manufacturers in the United Kingdom. The range of tools produced by Footprint include: masonry tools, plumbing tools, woodworking tools and engineering tools.
