ABSTRACT
EX-CATS is an Expert Computer Aided Tool Selection system for turned components developed in pilot form by Arezoo and Ridgway (1989) at the University of Sheffield. The system, which is based on the conventional concepts of the expert system, selects cutting tools, including the tool holders and inserts and determines the optimum cutting conditions for turned components.
