ABSTRACT
Geographical information systems (GIS) consist of robust hardware, software, data, and a thinking operator. Together, they provide powerful tools for mapping and analysing information about people, places and the environment. Recent improvements in computer hardware and software allow the powers of GIS to move effectively and affordably into the schools arena. With only a modest investment schools can have a new, full-featured GIS appropriate for classroom needs.
