ABSTRACT

Some years ago the author prepared a first analysis on the situation at German Universities concerning GIS education (Bill, 1992) followed by an interdisciplinary workshop on GIS in education (IFP, 1992). At that time a very limited number of institutions offered relevant GIS courses regularly. In 1996, this survey was again carried out by the author revealing that the situation had changed completely. By then, a broad range of GIS-related lecture units were offered at German schools in a variety of scientific disciplines at all levels in education.
