ABSTRACT

Because of the fast evolution of new materials and new production techniques, the use of wheelchairs by people with a disability has become increasingly important. Starting with an overview of ergonomic factors that play a role in different issues related to the production, adaptation, selection and use of manually propelled wheelchairs (Sections 9.1 to 9.3), this chapter aims to introduce the reader to the physiological and biomechanical aspects of manual wheelchair propulsion (Section 9.4).
