ABSTRACT
Plumisoneoftheimportantstonefruitcropsoftheworld.Plumsaregenerallyconsumedfresh, withtheexceptionofasmallquantityusedforcanningandbeveragepreparation.Plumswith highsugarcontentandfirmflesharedriedwithouttheremovalofstoneandarecalledprunes.The totalworldproductionofplumsisestimatedtobearound6,523,000tonnes(1).Theplum-and prune-producingcountriesoftheworldarelistedinTable1.Amongthese,theUnitedStates,the USSR,China,andRomaniaproducemorethan50%ofthetotalworldproduction(Fig.1).
