ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION This chapter focuses on the relationship between interferons (IFNs) and the glia of the central nervous system (CNS). We will discuss synthesis of IFNs by glia, the biological responses of glia to IFNs, and instances where type I and II IFNs generate opposing responses. We will begin with a brief review of the biology of glia.
