ABSTRACT

The rheological properties of a polymer melt are important to understand because, to a large extent, they determine the processing characteristics of the resin [ 14]. For example, the modeling of an injection molding process requires a knowledge of the shear rate and temperature dependence of the viscosity. For extrusion processes, the rheological properties of the resin determine the mixing dynamics, the pressure development at the die, and the degree of extrudate swell. For blow molding applications, the amount of parison sag is a function of the rheological properties.
