ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a detailed performance evaluation of the FM-Differential Chaos Shift Keying system (FM-DCSK). It evaluates the performance of the FM-DCSK modulation scheme for different propagation conditions. The chapter analyzes the shape of the spectra observed at different points in the FM-DCSK modulator because the shape of the transmitted spectrum has the strongest influence on the multipath performance and interference caused to other radio channels. The differences between fast and slow FM-DCSK systems in terms of interference with other users have been identified, showing that fast FM-DCSK increases the background noise level in overlapping narrow-band communications systems. The development of a new telecommunications system requires a fast simulator to determine the expected system performance under different channel conditions and to check the contribution of circuit and subsystem nonidealities to the overall implementation loss.
