ABSTRACT
The trend toward greater distribution of an organization’s operations has been evident for decades. Today’s network-enabled organizations — LANs, WANs; the Internet, intranets, and extranets; and virtual private network connections — allow workers to overcome boundaries of space and time. In concert, laptops and new mobile devices are extending the workplace to anywhere a knowledge worker might be.
