ABSTRACT

Anode | Solution(c0) | Membrane | Solution(c0) | Cathode (1) causes not only transference of specific ions through the membrane but also transference of liquid existing in its pores. This solvent transport accompanying ion transport is called in a phenomenological way electroosmosis. The magnitude and direction of the total volume flux is determined by the nature of the membrane system, the quantity of water transported by electroconvection, and some other relevant parameters such concentration and stirring rate of the solutions, temperature, etc.
