ABSTRACT

Fitting curves to data is called regression analysis. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an introduction to this important area of statistics by studying dose-response relationships for different drugs or treatments as dosage is varied. We shall use both linear and nonlinear models. Our emphasis is on summarization of results, basic methods for inference, and considerations for the design of such experiments. Throughout most of this chapter, we consider a particular experiment, which we now describe. Although the setting involves poultry diets, the methods apply directly to many other problems that arise in the pharmaceutical industry.
