ABSTRACT
In this chapter, modern refinery operations involving both physical separation of crude oil and chemical conversion processes are described. In particular, hydroprocessing, hydrocracking, alkylation, polymerization and partial oxidation of heavy residues are highlighted. Economic balances are included along with solved examples dealing with the design and the operation of many units that exist in a modern refinery.
