ABSTRACT

Extreme value distribution play an important role in the analysis of lifetime data. They are also useful in the analysis of rainfall, flood flow, earthquake, and other meteorological data. They are applicable as models in strength of material, corrosion, and other "weakest link" studies. The designation of extreme value is commonly applied to three types of limiting distributions, which approximate distributions of extremes (least or greatest) in large random samples. The cdfs of the three types of greatest extreme values are given below. Limiting distributions for the three types of least extreme values can be obtained by replacing X with -X.
