ABSTRACT
This study was unblinded. The investigators knew which patients were receiving ganciclovir and which patients were observation only. The SPRT statistic could be computed after each patient reached an endpoint without compromising the study blind. The patient-by-patient SPRT could be used in a blinded study, but the distribution of sequential analysis reports (as in Table 1) would have to be controlled to maintain the overall study blind.
