ABSTRACT

In livers of cyclostomes (lampreys, hagfishes) and some osteichthyes, vitamin A is stored not only in the perisinusoidal stellate cells but also in fibroblast-like cells in the periportal, perivenular, and subcapsular connective tissue (12,27). These cells are partially dislocated from the wall of sinusoids, adhering to the thick bundles of collagen fibrils which distribute irregularly in the hepatic parenchyma. Since the spacial relationship between hepatic cen cords and sinusoids in the liver of lower vertebrates is not so organized as the manner of mammalian livers, the location of the stellate cells is modified.
