ABSTRACT

Specific immunity in mammals can be divided into two distinct responses to antigenic exposure: humoral and cell-mediated (cellular) immune responses. Humoral immunity is B-lymphocyte-mediated, although it is well established that antibody production to many antigens is T-lymphocyte-dependent. Cellular

is T-lymphocytc-mediated and can be divided into two main effector mechanisms: cytolytic T-lymphocyte (CTL) responses and hypersensitivity (DTH) responses. Assay systems for both humoral and cellular immune responses are excellently described elsewhere (94).
