ABSTRACT

Induction heating is widely used in nowadays industry, in such operations as metal hardening, preheating for forging operations or brasing [3] . It basically consists in generating heat by means of the Joule effect resulting from an eddy current . Despite the apparent simplicity of this description, induction heating is a complex process , involving both nonlinear electromagnetic and thermal phenomena. Since the design and the investigation of an induction heating system usually relies upon a series of tedious, costly and long experiments , it appears that numerical simulation can be a valuable help in this field. Nevertheless , while eddy currents computation has been

widely described in the litterature e.g . [5] , [6] , [7] , numerical simulation of induction heating has usually been restrained to simple cases [8]- [14] .
