Abstract . We consider the solution of the Stokes equations by stabilized finite ele ment formulations involving parameters . We analyse the role of these parameters in the well-posedness of the discretized problem, in the discretization error, and in the efficiency of a solution procedure of conjugate-gradient type. We emphasis the role of the mini-element and give exact values of parameters depending on the bubbles func tions for general dimension n .
