ABSTRACT
Agricultural production has long been a major enterprise in Hungary because more than 60% of the country's land is arable. For centuries, winter wheat was the most commonly cultivated crop. But the first document pertaining to the quality of the wheat produced in various parts of the country was a map drawn up by Johann Treyer in 1885, under commission from the commodity exchange of Wien (Lang, 1997).
