ABSTRACT

A peculiar feature of fruit trees is their tendency towards irregular fruiting. It can be observed that under certain conditions an excessive number of flowers set fruit. As a result, due to a deficiency of nutrients necessary for their development, fruits do not achieve the desired size. Consequently, there is a need to reduce the number of fruits per tree by thinning. Such a procedure makes harvesting of high-quality fruit every year possible. New methods for controlling fruit set are continually sought to make thinning more reliable, and the results of the procedure repeatable and safe for the environment.
