ABSTRACT

In recent years in vitro synthesis of some saffron metabolites and their biochemical conversion have been studied. As an example, conjugated sugars with anti-cancer effects has been isolated from callus culture of saffron corms (33). Biochemical pathways for metabolites such as crocetin monoglucosyl and diglucobil in saffron tissue cultures have been studied using electrophoresis method. These results are the basis for production of synthetic compounds similar to saffron metabolites (36, 37).
