ABSTRACT

Autofluorescence of Angiosperms’ microsporangia known as anthers with spores (pollen grains) was demonstrated since the 30’s in the 20th century (Berger 1934; Asbeck 1955; van Gijzel 1961; 1967; 1971; Willemse 1971; Driessen et al., 1989) as well as pistil fluorescence (Kendrick and Knox, 1981). The phenomenon was never considered for understanding biological processes until recently. But rapid changes in the fluorescence may be an indicator of chemical reactions and relations.
