ABSTRACT

The entry describes of S‐DBR, an enhancement on the original DBR approach. The entry covers how to estimate safe delivery dates and how the use of safe dates affect other measures. These dates are provided by production to sales to guide promise dates on new sales to customers. The better the company schedules, organizes, and synchronizes based on realistic safe dates, the more it can realize benefits from a planned load. The entry also contains a comprehensive explanation of issues related to the effective management of capacity. It also examines issues related to reliability and value added that are unique to S‐DBR. Another factor addressed is the decision to increase capacity given the market's lack of tolerance for long lead‐time deliveries. Finally, the entry covers metrics for delivery service and their value to the business and the financial impact on customers when the service is below expectations.
