ABSTRACT
The entry describes the business and technical case for remanufacturing. It notes that product design for closed‐loop supply chains is a relatively new discipline. The author has coined the phrase “re‐X” to capture the fact that design for closed‐loop supply chains is not “just” a design for remanufacture or recycling issue. An optimum design must consider economic and legislative issues. The entry describes the core product remanufacturing processes and the fact that the OEM must have an incentive to support remanufacturing.
