ABSTRACT
The entry describes the environment in the evolution of sourcing and procurement from flat pricing decision‐makers to an ultimate network management role. Strategic sourcing becomes the focus for the mature organization, as all categories of the total spending, beyond the most trivial items, are under the direction of a procurement professional, backed by long‐term contracts that are honored across the firm. The entry provides a figure to depict the systems environment in a high performing supply chain.
