SUMMARY
Procedures for the analysis and design of composite concrete deck slab-onsteel girder bridges are presented. Both static and dynamic load effects are considered; the problem of fatigue failure of components such as shear connectors, reinforcing steel, steel girder, steel diaphragm and concrete slab is briefly discussed. Based on a realistic vertical temperature distribution, thermal stress analyses of simply-supported and continuous composite bridges are given. The advantages of prestressing portions of the concrete deck slab in the negative moment regions and in using steel diaphragms, welded to the longitudinal steel girders, are highlighted.
