ABSTRACT
COLOGNE On 8 September 1982 at 11.02 a.m. the factory fire brigade of the Chemical Factory Kalk (CFK) notified the professional fire brigade in Cologne by radio of a fire in the factory.
The CFK is a chemical factory which produces and stores nitrogencontaining fertilizers. Several smaller plants also produce organic and inorganic bromine compounds. The factory is located in the central city area in the direct vicinity of residential areas.
