ABSTRACT

Expert systems are computer programs that reproduce the behavior of an expert in a narrow domain of knowledge. The basic idea of expert systems is that human intelligence rests on two bases: a general set of procedures for manipulating facts of all sorts and a set of specific facts describing a particular knowledge domain. High level performance while solving problems is the result of two different contributions: a set of problem solving strategies that can be applied to a broad spectrum of cases plus some knowledge related to the particular case of concern.
